Half a century of hope. A future without violence. |
There’s a lot happening at Esperanza Shelter! We’ve been busy all summer connecting with our community at events throughout Santa Fe and Los Alamos, with more to come in September and October. Our $100K in 100 Days campaign is underway, we’re looking ahead to Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, and we’re getting ready to kick off Trees of Hope. Here’s a quick look at what we're up to at Esperanza Shelter—and we ask you to share our news with family and friends. Thank you for being part of our community! |

| Creating Lasting Change
One of the things I’m most proud of is how Esperanza Shelter continues to grow and evolve. We know the need has always been there—one in three New Mexicans will experience domestic violence in their lifetime—but more people are finding Esperanza Shelter and realizing that life-changing help is available. Last year, we served 54% more clients and provided 82% more services than the year before.
And as more people turn to us, we’re thinking beyond the immediate crisis. |
|
|
|
Of course, we respond when someone needs safety and support. But we also help survivors and families heal, and we work to change the behaviors and patterns that allow violence to continue. We’re expanding our efforts to prevent violence through education and community engagement, and we’re continually looking for ways to innovate—to meet needs and reach people in new ways. One example is our work to establish a dedicated strangulation exam room, where survivors can receive specialized medical exams and documentation in a safe, supportive setting.
To me, that’s what creating lasting change looks like. It’s being there for someone today while also working toward a future where fewer people experience domestic violence at all. That is the work we’re committed to—and we’re grateful to have your support. |

Last month we kicked off our $100K in 100 Days campaign, and we are very grateful to all who have already contributed, getting us 14% of the way there, but there's a lot more to do. Please help us build the next chapter of hope! Could you be one of:
10 Legacy of Hope Partners to give $10,000 each 20 19 Visionaries of Hope Partners to give $5,000 each
100 97 Hope Champions to give $1,000 each 200 195 Empowerment Partners to give $500 each
... and many Community Care Partners to give whatever they can. And if you'd like to match donations or create a challenge to help us meet our goal, please contact Jan Stewart, VP of Donor and Community Relations, 505-394-1061 or development@esperanzashelter.org
Every gift helps Esperanza Shelter respond where the need is greatest—providing free, confidential, bilingual, evidence-based, trauma-informed services for survivors and families while supporting the education and prevention efforts that help build a future free from domestic violence.
For over 50 years Esperanza Shelter has been creating safety today and working toward ending violence tomorrow. With your help, we can reach $100,000 in 100 days! |
