There is no job too small for volunteer Gloria Zubia to take part in. As a former client of Esperanza Shelter 26 years ago, she understands the importance of the services that we provide to our community.
Gloria has been a dedicated volunteer throughout the COVID pandemic both virtually and in person. She served as an instrumental leader who helped to prepare our transitional housing units. The time, care, and love that Gloria spent setting up each unit so that they were move-in ready with necessities made our clients feel welcomed, safe, and at home while they were seeking services through our emergency shelter.
When that project ended, Gloria immediately volunteered to help answer phone calls so our receptionist could take time off and work on additional projects. When Gloria was not answering Support Center phone calls, she would come to our site to help directors with organizational tasks. Gloria also took pride in cleaning up and vacuuming at our Support Center – there were several areas that needed her special attention since we have been closed to the public for the past year.
“Gloria has a heart of gold; she comes in with such a caring personality, tranquility, a can-do attitude, and is always willing to lend a hand. We appreciate her so much,” shared Anji Estrellas, Executive Director.
As a former client of Esperanza, Gloria openly shares how the services she received saved her and her son’s life. She loves to give back to Esperanza for many reasons – the number one reason being that she wants to pay it forward.
“The people of Esperanza are wonderful people that give so much and I love being a part of their team. It’s an honor,” said Gloria.
We are thankful for YOU Gloria. You are part of the Esperanza family and we appreciate you so much.
