Pat Tuohy was an Esperanza Shelter board member and donor.  As a supporter of all things Esperanza, she was beloved by everyone who knew her.  She also volunteered for the Santa Fe Opera and some of the museums in the city. Pat passed away last June and will always be missed by her family and friends.  We are grateful to her for her service to Esperanza and her commitment to our mission.

“Pat was such a great board member and was actually still on the board when I first joined,” said Marcos Zubia, board president.  “She was responsible for compiling information to assist with board development, which is very important.”  Zubia added, I remember calling her to tell her I’d been elected president of the board.  She was so happy and supportive.  Pat truly loved Esperanza and was still a donor when I told her I had been named one of the “Ten Who Made a Difference” last year.

Following are a few quotes from former board members who volunteered alongside Pat Tuohy.

I will remember Pat’s most positive and joyful outlook on life!! She wanted to do all she could for Esperanza, and all her friends and contacts were aware of Esperanza’s Mission and she would not take “no” for an answer, when she asked for any support for Esperanza!!

Her genuine smile will be missed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Pat Tuohy when I joined the Board of Esperanza Shelter in 2010.  Over the years we maintained a lovely friendship.  When she moved out of Santa Fe (to Denver) our friendship continued.

Pat was always cheerful and positive—her glass was always half full!  Even when she suffered health setbacks during her time in Denver, she always said, “it could be much worse”.  When her son pre-deceased her she was guided by her strong faith to accept his passing as God’s will.

Pat was fun, funny and always eager to meet for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Usually we spent hours chatting and laughing long after our meal.  I am deeply saddened by her passing and will miss her kind and loving nature.

Pat was always willing to help Esperanza in any way possible.  She would sell tickets to events, collect auction items for fundraising and always participated in Board meetings.  Pat’s smile and friendly demeanor and dedication for Esperanza’s mission will always be remembered.  She will be deeply missed!
